Do you need a multi-vitamin?

Are you one of those people that knows you eat a healthy diet so you think you’re getting all the nutrients you need and don’t need to take a multivitamin?  You’re right! You can get everything you need from your food as long as you’re willing to eat 33 lbs of spinach, 1 bottle of sunflower oil or 3 lbs of almonds EVERY SINGLE DAY to get optimal amounts of Vitamin E.  Holy guacamole batman?! (Read more about nutrition Myth Busters here.)

But which multi? It can be challenging to decide considering the typical broad recommendations for women (and especially if you have any health concerns).
A high quality multivitamin for basic good health should contain key nutrients to support overall health and keep your immune system strong so you can fight off illness. If you’re a pre-menopausal woman and/or still have your ovaries, you’ll want to take one with iron otherwise you no longer need this nutrient in a supplement form (necessarily) and should be consuming iron from food.

A multi should also be of the highest, professional-grade quality formulated and manufactured according to NSF GMP registration standards by a science-based company who discloses their standardization practices, quality control standards, and is dedicated to evidence-based research and science. You may discuss with your doctor if taking a multivitamin is a wise decision for you…just make sure that it contains:
• No more than 3500 IU vitamin A
• No more than 30 IU vitamin E
• 100% or more daily value of other vitamins
• No junk fillers
• 100% allergen free (gluten, dairy, corn, soy, wheat, yeast)

I, of course, have my favorites, so pop me a quick note below if you need some help wading through the vast sea of supplements. f you’re like most of us who have the best intentions but don’t always remember to take your vitamins, then you’re not getting the full benefit and your health could be suffering.
